Homeschooling Age 2-3
NOTE: All children sit and listen to our devotionals and family Bible studies. We also do a lot of reading aloud, from various books - mostly classics. The below is just what we do for "formal homeschool."
For this age range, I continue giving special activities, and also let the child color, and look at various different books, with lots of pictures.
Generally, formal homeschool for ages 2-3 looks like this, around here:
- Child gets various activities, gets to color, works on wooden peg puzzles, looks at lots of books
- I read to the child. I start with A Treasury of Mother Goose Rhymes
- When we make it through that book, then we move on to my reading A Child's Garden of Verses
- When we finish with that book, then we finish off the homeschool year with me reading this to the child - The Children's Bible in which we read two or more stories per day, and sometimes more at night, before bed.
Meanwhile, I like to read stories from The Book of God for Children to all of the kids before bedtime.
- After 2-3yr old's story time is over, I have the child count to 15 or 20. I teach the child little by little, through the year, until the child can count to 15 or 20+, all by him/herself
- Next, I have the child sing the ABC song - I gradually teach this to the child, as well.
- Lastly, we sing "Jesus Loves Me" while doing hand motions to go with the song.
